Tangram’s Ohio Team Partners on Major Visualization Projects
Senior visualizer Rick Knight is managing director of our Columbus, Ohio, office. Together with Chris Perez, senior architectural visualizer, and Shannon Nutter, architecture visualizer, Rick works closely with our Maine headquarters team to develop some of our larger and innovative visualization projects in Chicago, the Midwest, and on the West Coast. In fact, there’s an open phone line and video connection between our offices that enables the teams to communicate instantly with each other daily.
Rick has worked for Tangram 3DS for eight years, first as a 3D modeler, then as an architectural visualizer, and finally as a senior visualizer/project manager. He jokes that Tangram CEO Stefan Vittori was so anxious for him to start working at the company that he almost made him quit school. “I interviewed at Tangram in July, finished my bachelor’s thesis in September, and Stefan told me I could start in October,” Rick says. After relocating to Columbus with his wife, Casey, Tangram 3DS opened our Columbus office and Rick became managing director, working on such key projects as VRs and an animation of Nationwide Insurance’s Columbus-based headquarters. A native of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Rick earned a bachelor’s degree in architectural engineering from the New England Institute of Technology in Rhode Island. He and Casey are also the proud parents of Harper, their six-month-old daughter.
The Columbus and Maine teams have developed multiple projects together—including architectural renderings, promotional videos, 360 VRs, Real-Time walkthroughs and more—with our Chicago partners Madison Capital, Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture (HPA) and MB Real Estate (MBRE). One of our most exciting collaborations has been the revitalization of Chicago’s Fulton Market District, the city’s former meatpacking district. Fulton Market is brimming with corporate headquarters, tech offices, art galleries, hotels, restaurants and more. We’ve developed promotional videos for several Fulton Market projects but our most recent is 318 North Carpenter, across the street from Google’s new offices.
“We had a lot of aerial photography taken, which we used to match our 3D model into so that viewers can see the new building in context of Fulton Market and downtown Chicago,” says Rick. The building, slated for completion in 2020, will encompass 90,000 square feet of office space, 10,000 square feet of ground-floor retail, a 9,000-square-foot rooftop deck and below-grade parking.
318 North Carpenter is just one of many projects Tangram has worked on in the Fulton Market District. Others include 900-901 W. Fulton Market, 1100 W. Fulton Market and 1032 W. Fulton Market.
Another exciting project in conjunction with HPA—and just unveiled—are renderings for a new hotel owned by Chip and Joanna Gaines, former cohosts of HGTV’s Fixer-Upper and owners of Magnolia, a home décor and lifestyle brand. The three-story, 53,000-square foot hotel, scheduled to open in 2021, will be in the former Grand Karem Shrine building in downtown Waco, Texas. We’re looking forward to additional work on this Texas landmark.
In the meantime, we’ll continue to keep the lines open between Maine and Ohio.
