Greetings, Earthlings! As we get ready for the Maine Space Expo, we're looking back at our extraordinary adventure in space exploration technology and lunar habitat construction with space architect Sam Ximenes and his trailblazing organizations—Astroport Space Technologies, Exploration Architecture Corporation (XArc), and the WEX Foundation.
While Sam and his crew were designing lunar habitats, we were the creative force making those visions pop off the screen—capturing every detail through immersive 3D models, breathtaking animations, and captivating videos that showcase their brilliance for the world to experience.
One of the most thrilling projects we had was visualizing how the lunar habitats would look. While Sam and his crew were figuring out the science behind living on the Moon, we were busy turning their technical designs into visuals that left people saying, "Beam me up, Scotty."
Our job wasn't just to create eye-popping visuals (though, in our opinion, they were pretty stunning). We were tasked with telling a story—a story of human grit, adaptability, and the dream of thriving on the Moon. With Jacques Pena and Marc Fagan leading the charge on our team, they used intricate 3D modeling and animation to turn these ambitious ideas into compelling visuals, merging functionality with the Moon's raw, stark beauty.
Astroport Space Technologies took our collaboration to the next level (or should we say, to the Moon?). While we were the team making things look cool, they were the ones developing mind-blowing space exploration technology that could actually build lunar habitats. Their secret sauce? In-situ resource utilization (ISRU) —a fancy way of saying, "Let’s build stuff on the Moon using the Moon!" Imagine turning lunar regolith—yes, moon dust—into actual bricks for construction. You don’t get to say "lunar dust" in many projects, but when you do, you make sure it looks epic.
Working with Astroport’s brilliant engineers, we visualized how ISRU could take lunar exploration from sci-fi to reality. To bring these ideas down to Earth (pun fully intended), we produced a dynamic video showcasing three cutting-edge technologies they developed in partnership with Gradel and Baylor University. These technologies were not just ideas—they are part of the future of constructing lunar habitats.
The WEX Foundation had a mission that was close to our hearts—educating and inspiring the next generation of space explorers. We were excited to contribute by designing and rendering interactive exhibits for the Lunar Caves Analog Test Sites (LCATS) program and the San Antonio Museum of Science and Technology to help secure funding and advance those visionary projects.
Our role was to create engaging visuals that broke down complex science into something exciting and accessible, especially for the children who might one day lead the charge in space exploration. These exhibits were designed to captivate and educate, showcasing how fascinating and important space science can be.
Our design concepts offered students and enthusiasts a virtual journey to the lunar surface, exploring caves and habitats that could one day support human life. It was about planting seeds of curiosity to inspire young minds to grow into the next generation of scientists, engineers, and explorers.
